It’s 3 am, you and your newborn are awake together in the still of the early morning. Eyes wide open, your new baby staring back at you. Just the two of you, peacefully rocking, in the glow of the lamp, with all the darkness outside. It is in these quiet moments you learn how much you yourself are changing. Newborn life has come into yours. What an awakening. Rocking and dreaming of the life you will have together. Forever connected. This beautiful tiny little one that
came from your body. You tell yourself, document this time of growth; it goes by so quick; it will be hard to remember. That’s why I needed to start photographing newborns. It wasn’t a want it was a need.
Newborn photography is the photography that I originally said I wasn’t going to do, nevertheless, it was as if I did not even have a choice. I was so instinctively drawn to it. The intimacy, the emotions, the familiarity of watching two souls maneuver their way in this world together. There was something so magical about the experience, and I just kept being attracted to it. It was after newborn sessions that I truly felt, I too, gained something from the involvement. The connection to another mother, a bond shared with women so powerful it can tremble your core. This raw phase, generally in the fourth trimester, so many emotions floating in the air. How could you not want to be a part of something like that?

I have grown to realize; I have a natural comfort around mothers and babies. It is where I feel most connected and inspired. The shared experience of being a mother is so profound, words are almost not needed at times. It’s the peacefulness of sitting with another and your baby, knowing they are just as relaxed in this moment with you.
Beyond just the connection with another mother, I was trying to figure out what it was that drew me to newborn photography. I realized it was the birth of myself becoming a mother, and wanting so much more of my children than I had. I had a fear of not remembering each little precious moment. Never could I have ever imagined how overwhelming having a newborn would be. The days turn into weeks overnight. All of a sudden, I had this sense of losing control. Time was to fleeting. Everything moving too quickly, yet so slowly. I had this restlessness about losing the precious moments in the fogginess of new motherhood. I didn’t want to forget that smell from the tops of their heads, or the crinkle in the skin on their neck. The way their little fingers stoically pointed in the air in their sleep. The embrace of the tiniest finger around mine.

It felt as if any amount of time would not be enough to soak it all in. It is what started my love of newborn photography. I all of sudden had this undeniable need to suspend time. Capturing all those tiny little details in case I forgot them. It was the littlest of details that I wanted, needed most. I would look at them in awe, staring at their beautiful skin covering their shoulders. Those tiny little ears. I would hold their hands in mine, with an aching to never forget. I would sit there in the silence of the long newborn nights and think to myself; this is true love; how can I hold onto this moment longer?
Having children changed everything that’s important in life for me. It was no longer the big gigantic moments in life, it was about all the little details, adding up together that really mattered. The small seemingly insignificant details. The ability to be able to provide other mothers, with images of those small tiny details that I obsessed over, meant so much to me.

The way I looked at the world, what I wanted to capture through my lens, somehow just took a drastic turn. See that is the thing, it is not just the birth of a child, but the birth of a mother as well. You are becoming your new self. This little soul has changed every cell in your body. I finally understood unconditional love. That kind of love that changes you forever. Knowing that from this day forward, you will never be the person you once were. You are now the expanded
version, the 2.0 so to speak. With more love in your heart, more patience, more acceptance and a view that has a wider range.

To me it is not just about the newborn. This is why I love to ensure the beauty of the bond between mother and newborn is uncovered. Two souls that came from one being. Still attached by those same cells, that have bonded together, from now until the end of time. Not just seeing the newborn in its purest, tiniest form, but seeing the way the mother is transforming in her post birth cocoon. The way she looks at her baby through a new lens. The way her body has
changed to create new life. The way her body is now not just hers, but serves as survival for someone else.

So now I capture all those little details for myself and others. Watching and photographing a newborn baby, in their mothers’ arms, brings me so much joy. Getting to experience and document that connection is magical. I want both mother and baby to feel safe and secure in my studio and presence. I aim to create an experience that showcases the natural bond, and all the beautiful little details of the newborn baby, for the mother to hold onto forever.
Documenting this moment in time, filled with so much love, it is awe-inspiring, A time so overwhelming and monumental. Ensuring that the mother feels comfortable and confident in herself, and the space between, is of the utmost importance to me. I provide a warm calming environment for both mother and the newborn. Having a calm mother is just as important, if not more important than a calm newborn.

The mother guides the mood created by myself, and ultimately everything stems from her.
My newborn photography style is focused on the individuals and the organic moments that are created. What I want to capture is the raw intimate connection between a mother or father and the newborn. I do not require the session to be booked within the first 7 -10 days after birth. I can take your newborn photos up to 8 weeks after birth. I find by waiting that period of time, giving you time to settle in, and really connect and get to know your baby and yourself, helps to
truly capture the essence of your bond.

I want to show that transformation of both you and your baby as you grow together. What your new life and your precious baby are all about. Your intimate perspective of this beginning.
Whether it be in your home, or at my studio, I will ensure the atmosphere is welcoming, calm and supportive of you and your new little one. We can create magic together, during this immense shift, and growth of your family love.
